I have a mixed class of 7th & 8th graders, with the option of re-taking the class several times. I chose this project that challenged returning students yet was within the abilities of my new students. We started by making hollow spheres for the heads, creating shoulders with a thick slab of clay (scoop out the bottom), and attaching the two with a thick coil for the neck. Students then embellished their creations to reflect their personalities.
