This is one of my
favorite projects to do in the fall! I show the students how to create
realistically shaped pumpkins, apples, pears, grapes, and leaves (and
don't forget the stems!). We draw these shapes on colored paper - I
pass out "cut-to-size" colored paper for the students to draw their
shapes - 9x12" orange (pumpkin), 4 1/2x6" yellow, red, browns, green,
and purple for the rest of the collage. Draw the shapes with pencil,
then cut out and glue onto 9x12" black paper. Using oil pastels, we
shade the fruits and vegetables using that color's complement. Add
detail lines to the stems and leaves.
