Supplies: 12x18" black paper, gel fx crayons, markers, and colored pencils
This lesson began with
students drawing a face in profile. After they were comfortable drawing
this they drew their profile on black paper. I then distributed visuals
of Mayan headdresses. Students were amazed that these headdresses were
composed of several basic shapes. They then combined several shapes to
create their own version of a Mayan headdress, coloring them in with
the gel fx crayons, markers, and colored pencils. The next time I do
this project I am going to try it on white paper and paint.
