Christmas At
VanGogh's
Having only 6 middle school students this year I was challenged to come up with an idea for their art show that would be impressive, incorporate art history, and include several mediums. We looked at several reproductions and the students really wanted to do VanGogh's bedroom. So we began by looking at some of his artwork, watching some videos, and learning about his life.
Each student created a ceramic pot and glazed it with VanGogh's style in mind. The window scene was created by having each student recreate a section of Starry Night. I found it interesting at the different interpretations on the same painting.
Students painted self-portraits in VanGogh's style.
To help educate our viewers each student chose one famous reproduction and created a poster using calligraphy, describing what was happening in VanGogh's life when he painted that particular painting.
This close-up of the tree shows two styles of "ornaments". The students painted VanGogh's sunflowers on a CD. The other is Starry Night reproduced on transparancies using window markers.
