We started with an armature of clothesline wire. Create a loop for the head and twist. The two wires become legs (you do not create a body for these). Add more wires for legs until the basic form is complete. Roll newspaper into small rolls and wrap around the armature legs, using masking tape and hot glue to attach. A ball of newspaper inside the top loop forms the head. These should be very secure when finished. I had each student bring in craft fur to save on expenses. One piece of craft fur runs appx. $3.50 locally. Cut into 1" strips and wrap around armature. Glue on with hot glue (glue pots work great!). Add details such as claws, eyes, teeth, horns, etc. I originally used sculpey, but find clay easier to form these. The students were totally fascinated with this project. Thanks to Jerry Vilenski for this awesome lesson!
