Vocabulary Words: Compass Rose, symbolism, accuracy

While the 6th grade students were studying maps in social studies they were studying them in art class! We first drew a map of Kansas. We discussed how the railroad played a vital part in our state's history, then we mapped the major railway lines and the cities they passed. I then asked the students to embellish their drawing with symbols that portrayed our state.
